Antique Folding Horse Hoof Pick — J. Gamble, c.1900, Boer War Era, Forged Iron

An antique folding horse hoof pick stamped J. Gamble / 1900 — a named maker with a precise date placing this squarely in the Boer War era (1899–1902), when the British Army deployed over 500,000 horses and mules and farrier tools were issued as standard military equipment. The folding mechanism works cleanly, opening and closing with no looseness or damage.

The design is elegant in its simplicity: a forged iron hook on a curved neck, pivoting at a rivetted joint, with an integral finger loop for grip and control. The hook end cleans packed mud and debris from the hoof cavity — an essential daily task for any working or military horse.
