Hand-Forged Kent Pattern Axe Head, Smith's Initials
This axe head is hand-forged work of unknown origin in the English Kent-pattern tradition, a single-bit felling and general-purpose axe shape historically produced by makers such as William Gilpin and Elwell, though this example is most likely the work of an individual blacksmith rather than a commercial toolmaker. It carries its maker's stamped initials.
Forged as a single piece with an eye for a handle, the head weighs approximately 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) and is offered as the head only, without a handle. See Condition Notes below for detail.
