Dexter for L.L. Bean Carbon Steel Chef Knife 8.5"

$145.00

Made by Dexter of Southbridge, Massachusetts, one of America's oldest cutlery firms, with roots along the Green River in the same historic knife-making region as its New England neighbors. This Model 4898 chef's knife was produced specifically for L.L. Bean of Freeport, Maine, and carries that retailer's stamp. The wide, full-bellied blade with a flat heel is characteristic of Dexter's mid-century forged kitchen line, hand-forged after drop-forging and hand-ground to shape.

The high-carbon steel blade shows light scattered spotting consistent with age, normal patina for carbon steel, not damage, and the edge remains sound with no chips. The wood handle is solid and secure with three brass rivets. Measures 14 in / 35.6 cm overall with an 8 1/2 in / 21.6 cm blade.
