A carpenter's hatchet head by Josiah Fowler Co. of Saint John, New Brunswick. Stamped J. Fowler / St. John N.B. on the cheek.

This is the classic carpenter's lathing hatchet pattern: flat poll for driving, nail slot notch at the blade base for pulling, and a curved nail claw on the back of the head. The original handle stub remains in the eye.
