Harrison Bros & Howson Sheffield Folder — Bone

This large single-blade folder was made by Harrison Brothers & Howson of Sheffield, England, one of the city's major cutlery firms by the turn of the 20th century. The blade is tang-stamped "Harrison Bros & Howson, Sheffield," with a Norfolk Street works address — the firm's home from its founding in 1849 until the move to a new Carver Street factory in 1900, dating this piece to before 1900.

The knife has a curved, pruner-style blade with a nickel bolster and warm butterscotch bone handle scales. Total length is 8 inches open, 4 1/2 inches closed.

The blade shows a tight snap and honest wear consistent with age, and the liners show visible wear from years of use. A substantial, well-made 19th-century Sheffield working knife from a respected maker.
