L'Enfer Plate-Semelle Butcher Knife, Rosewood, 1920s-30s
Marked "L'Enfer," made by the Garret Company of Thiers, France; the blades were forged and cut in the Le Creux de l'Enfer building, a centuries-old cutlery site in the Durolle River Valley at the heart of Thiers, France's historic cutlery capital. This is a "plate-semelle" boucher (flat-sole butcher) pattern, unused new-old-stock with its original factory paper wrap still attached to the handle.
The dark rosewood handle, secured with three brass rivets, pairs with a carbon steel blade. See Condition Notes below for detail.
